A Combined Model for the X-ray to Gamma-ray Emission of Cygnus
نویسنده
چکیده
We use recent data obtained by three (OSSE, BATSE, and COMPTEL) of four instruments on board the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO) to construct a model of Cyg X-1 that describes its emission in a broad energy range, from soft X-rays to MeV c-rays, self-consistently. The c-ray emission is interpreted to be the result of Comptonization, bremsstrahlung, and positron annihilation in a hot, optically thin, and spatially extended region surrounding the whole accretion disk. For the X-ray emission, a standard corona-disk model is applied. We show that the Cyg X-1 spectrum accumulated by the CGRO instruments during a D4 year time period between 1991 and 1995, as well as the HEAO 3 and c 1 c 2 spectra, can be well represented by our model. The derived parameters match the observational results obtained from X-ray measurements. Transient Gamma-ray Emission from Cygnus X-3 Detected by AGILE: Leptonic and Hadronic Emission Models
The AGILE satellite detected several episodes of transient γ-ray emission from Cygnus X-3. Cross-correlating the AGILE light curve with both X-ray and radio monitoring data, we found that the main events of γ-ray activity were detected while the system was in soft spectral X-ray states, that coincide with local and often sharp minima of the hard X-ray flux, a few days before intense radio outbu...
متن کاملThe diffuse GeV-TeV γ-ray emission of the Cygnus region
Recently the Milagro experiment observed diffuse multi-TeV gamma ray emission in the Cygnus region, which is significantly stronger than what predicted by the Galactic cosmic ray model. However, the sub-GeV observation by EGRET shows no excess to the prediction based on the same model. This TeV excess implies possible high energy cosmic rays populated in the region with harder spectrum than tha...
متن کاملA High Sensitivity Measurement of the MeV γ - Ray Spectrum of Cygnus X - 1
The Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) has observed the Cygnus region on several ocassions since its launch in 1991. The data collected by the COMPTEL experiment on CGRO represent the most sensitive observations to date of Cygnus X-1 in the 0.75-30 MeV range. A spectrum accumulated by COMPTEL over 10 weeks of observation time shows significant evidence for emission extending out to several – ...
متن کاملVariable Gamma-ray Emission from Microblazars
We propose a model for gamma-ray emitting microblazars based on the Compton interaction of a relativistic electron-positron plasma, ejected in a jet feature, with the UV-photon field provided by a high-mass stellar companion. Taking into account the gravitational effects of the star upon the accretion disk, we predict a jet precession which results in a variable, periodic, high-energy gamma-ray...

The detection of 1.809 MeV gamma-ray line emission from the Cygnus X complex by the COMPTEL telescope is one of the most convincing proves of massive star nucleosynthesis in our Galaxy. The Cygnus X complex is an extremely active nearby region, containing several star forming regions, OB associations and young open star clusters. It houses some of the most massive stars known in our Galaxy and ...
